Hiii, Im happy to welcome you to my second blog postttttt ♡
This blogpost will cover the current theme in my art called "Softness & Violence"
I am also sharing some exciting NEWWSSSS about a new bimonthly sticker project Im working on (FYI it's on sale already!!)
"Softness & Violence"
Firstly, Ill address the theme I work with in my art currently, “Softness & Violence”. As a disclaimer, this is all based on my experience and Im not imposing it as an overall truth or fact. (TW: Talking about meantal health)
Somehow, over the last year, the theme "Softness & Violence" slowly developed and became clear to me in my art. However, I do not ever limit myself consciously within a certain bubble but it is nice to see a certain cohesiveness in my art ★
“Softness & Violence” describes thematic/metaphoric and visual traits I use in my art. At the core of it is contrast and the inner conflict between a soft peace seeking side and a self-destructive/hateful side.
Visually this shows in the contrast between light & dark, pastel & neons, sharp & round, cute & creepy, eerie & serene etc.
SOFTNESS is about the souls core. I believe that the most inner core of a human only seeks love, acceptance, peace and happiness. It’s a very pure and idyllic image, maybe even a bit naïve, but I do believe that when it comes to our souls it is at the core of it. Some people and world events really make me doubt it a lottttt, but they won’t take my positive image of the soul's core, or else they won with their assholeness! Softness and just purely happy imagery, colours and themes that are just soothing without really any other purpose than just existing for joy, that’s part of this idea of softness.
Some might say it’s the inner child, but I disagree, I think children are just closer to this core. I believe that the more we grow up and just live, have new worries, interact with others and experience scarring things, one gets distanced from that core. By that I mean the soft side partly just drowns amongst a new sea of thoughts and proprities as we grow up, but also that this soft side gets attacked by violence.
VIOLENCE in the case of this theme can be summarised as specifically mental health struggles. It is a very broad topic, but one way I can describe those struggles is violent and I do not at all mean violent in terms of physical violence, but in a self-destructive way.
I think using the Google definition of violent describes what I mean well. Experiencing mental health struggles is such a violently powerfull thing that feels like it has the intent to hurt us.
1. using or involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something.
2. (especially of an emotion or a destructive natural force) very strong or powerful.
Overall you can say this inner conflict between these two forces is a very basic human experience, but through my own personal perspective. The soft side that just wants positivity and love gets attacked by this hostile violent power that just wants to hurt the soft side. I want to emphasise that I believe, no matter what, this soft side somehow always wins. So overall my theme ends on a positive note. I feel like I explained myself enough and I hope you enjoyed reading so far, now onto something new and excitingggGGGGGG ✿
